It can be called a "meeting of fathers." Well, sort of. On the evening of August 10, William So, the supportive father of chess Grandmaster Wesley So, finally met up with Alfred Denzo Jr., the "father" of www.gmwesleyso.com, the fan-fueled website of the Filipino chess star.

From Monday, July 19 to Wednesday, July 28, 2010 the 43rd edition of the annual Biel Chess Festival will take place in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland. It is a ten player round-robin, in which each player has to play one game against each other. The winner of this tournament will be determined after nine rounds. Games start at 14:00h = 2 p.m. local time (CEST, = 16:00 Moscow, 13:00 p.m. London, 8:00 a.m. New York). All games will be broadcast by the official web site's "Live Games" page and on the Playchess.com server.

GM Ian Nepomniachtchi RUS(2695) had crossed the 2700 ELO border gaining +11 Pts at the “TORNEO INTERNACIONAL DE AJEDREZ CAPABLANCA GRUPO ELITE” (45th Capablanca Memorial, June 10-21, 2010) in Habana, Cuba by placing 2nd Overall with 6/10 in an Elite Group of six-player double round robin won by GM Ivanchuk, Vassily UKR(2741). GM Nepomniachtchi is expected to register a 2706 ELO come July 2010 FIDE ratings.

Grandmaster Wesley So, the country's youngest chess GM, stamped his class over the local competition by winning the 2010 Phoenix Petroleum Battle of Grandmasters held at the Character Hotel in Tagaytay City from May 25 to June 2.  So piled up 8.5 points (seven wins, three draws) to capture his third BoGMs title in as many stagings of the annual event since its inception two years ago.

World's Top Juniors Race Towards 2700 (UPDATE) Friday, 30 April 2010 18:47 Nineteen year old GM Ian Nepomniachtchi of Russia is the top ELO points gainer with a +39.3 ELO from his combined exploits in topping the 11th European Individual Championship alone on March 6th to 18th 2010 in Rijeka, Croatia with a 2868 performance and a +27.7 ELO and secondly also scoring a +11.6 ELO at The Russian Team Chess Championships that took place in Dagomys 1st-10th April 2010. GM Nepomniachtchi needing only +4.7 ELO dislodged the former leader GM Le, Quang Liem of Vietnam in their race towards Hyper GM Status at 2700 ELO.
